    • São Miguel is the largest island in the Azores Archipelago, in Portugal. It is known for its volcanic landscape, flora and rich marine life, including whales. Ponta Delgada, the capital, is home to the 18th century City Gates, the Gothic-style Church of São Sebastião and the São Brás Fort. The crater lakes of Lagoa das Sete Cidades, one green and one blue, lie to the northwest. To the east, Furnas has fumaroles and hot springs.
