Route of Colors in Morocco: Tangier, Asilah, Chaouen and Tetouan

Upon arrival, the Guide will be waiting for us to begin a complete visit to the city of Tangier, an ancient city dominated by various peoples throughout its history, and declared an international city for much of the mid-20th century. Today it is the economic-administrative capital of the northern region of Morocco and an important and cosmopolitan business center: panoramic view of the modern city by bus: the “Boulevard Pasteur”, the “Place de France” and the diplomatic districts.

Next we will visit Cape Spartel, with spectacular views over the Strait of Gibraltar, and where we will have the opportunity to ride a camel and visit the mythical “Caves of Hercules” (optional) and its famous Gate of Africa. For those who want, you can also ride a camel (optional) and take photos.

Afterwards, we will arrive at the Kasbah, a walled medieval sector. At the entrance we will find snake charmers, water carriers and other typical characters. We will walk through its labyrinthine streets, surrounded by walls, which constituted a defensive area of the city, time for lunch in a typical restaurant. Later, we will visit the medina and the souks with their spice stalls, carpets and various craft objects. We will continue our journey to “ASILAH” which is 40 kilometers south of Tangier, the white city surrounded by wonderful beaches, an inevitable meeting between culture and history.

The small, unassuming town of Asilah seems to be sleeping behind its blue, green and yellow doors. And yet he had a very agitated primacy. Asilah was Roman, Spanish and Portuguese. Imposing bastions, towers and walls now serve as the setting for charming beach walks and restaurants famous for their fried fish dishes. In it should be found the richness of Arzila, the interesting and cosmopolitan architecture, such as the presence of a Catholic church in the center, the Raissouni Palace, a masterpiece of its own name and of Muslim craftsmanship with its unique position on the wall of the city and for its amazing interior decoration and the strong and exceptional cultural richness of this area. Later we will leave towards Tetuan and transfer to the hotel. Dinner and accommodation

Breakfast and departure to the blue city “Chaouen”, a city located in a valley in the Rif mountain range. Its name, which in the Riffian dialect means "horns", refers to the two mountain peaks visible from the city, founded in 1471 by Muslims and Jews exiled from Al-Andalus. These imitated the narrow and irregular layout of Andalusian towns and whitewashed their houses in shades of blue, a custom that their current inhabitants preserve.

A walking tour will begin outside the Alcazaba and the octagonal mosque, located in Uta Hammam square, and crossing the entire medina we will climb to the source of Ras Al-Ma, to the north and beyond the walls that surround it. This spring supplies water to the numerous fountains spread throughout the village. Once the visit is over, time for lunch and then free time to enjoy the city as you wish and do your shopping. Afterwards, return to the city of Tetouan and transfer to our hotel.

In the evening, dinner with “Moroccan Folklore” in a restaurant in the Tetouan medina. Return to hotel and accomodation.

Breakfast and departure to visit the city of “TETUAN”, also called “La Paloma Blanca”. Populated by different ancient civilizations, hence their successive invasions and the reason for the construction of the Great Kasbah, or walled enclosure that surrounds and protects the Medina. Panoramic tour of the modern city, with many cafes and buildings from the colonial era, along Avenue Mohamed V and once in Hassan II Square, where the “Royal Palace” is located, walking tour through the Jewish quarter or Mellah, until reaching the Medina, UNESCO World Heritage. This Medina is one of the most important in Northern Morocco. Lunch time in a typical restaurant.

Afterwards, we will continue our visit to the Medina to visit the most characteristic Souks or Markets and artisanal neighborhoods, such as the Berber, Vegetable and Fish Souk, neighborhood of carpenters, tanners and other artisans. Once the visit is over, transfer to Porto to go through the border procedures and embark for Algeciras and, later, board for Lisbon.
